Manage login items and background agents

See what starts by itself and disable the unnecessary.

  1. System Settings → General → Login Items: disable what is not useful and look at the "Allow in the Background" section.
  2. List the loaded non-Apple agents:
    launchctl list | grep -v com.apple
  3. User agents live in ~/Library/LaunchAgents and system ones in /Library/LaunchAgents and /Library/LaunchDaemons.
  4. Unload a user agent:
    launchctl bootout gui/$(id -u) ~/Library/LaunchAgents/exemple.plist
  5. To remove it for good, move the .plist file to the Trash after unloading it.
