Free up space on your Mac

Get space back without breaking the system.

1. System Settings → General → Storage: read the recommendations.
2. Find the big folders in your user account:

   du -sh ~/Library/* 2>/dev/null | sort -h | tail -15

   Copy
3. Clean the Homebrew cache:

   brew cleanup --prune=all

   Copy
4. List local Time Machine snapshots:

   tmutil listlocalsnapshots /

   Copy
5. Also clear old downloads, iPhone backups (Finder → Manage backups) and the Xcode cache if you develop.
