Manage the programs that start at boot
Speed up boot by disabling what does not need to start.
- Open Task Manager with Ctrl + Shift + Esc, then the "Startup apps" tab.
- Sort by "Startup impact" and disable (right-click) whatever you do not need right away: game launchers, app updaters, messaging apps.
- To see the startup shortcuts of your session, open the folder:
shell:startup
- For a complete view (scheduled tasks, services, drivers), use Autoruns from the Sysinternals suite (see "Recommended software").
- Restart and compare the boot time shown in the "Performance" tab.
⚠️ Do not disable your antivirus or your graphics and audio drivers.
