Install WSL2 and Ubuntu

Run a real Linux inside Windows, with no virtual machine to manage.

  1. In an administrator terminal:
    wsl --install
  2. Restart if prompted, then create your Linux username the first time you launch Ubuntu.
  3. See the available distributions and install another one:
    wsl --list --online
    wsl --install -d Debian
  4. Check the version (should show 2) and update WSL:
    wsl -l -v
    wsl --update
  5. Inside Ubuntu, update the packages:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
⚠️ Virtualisation must be enabled in the BIOS/UEFI (Intel VT-x / AMD-V / SVM).
